The Tour de Carillon festival takes place between 15 June and 2 July 2007 in twenty-one major towns of Kuyavian-Pomeranian District. It's the first strategical event opening a series of cultural activities in the region supporting Toruń's effort to become the European Capital of Culture in 2016.
The carillon concerts are performed on a 57-bell instrument from Prague, that comes to Kuyavian-Pomeranian District for the only tour in Poland. The solist is Monika Kaźmierczak, a distinguished carillonist from Gdańsk. Main concerts will be accompanied by additional events, such as happenings, and choir and brass quintet (Hevelius Brass) performances.
The repertoire includes a rich selection of both classical music standards and well-known pieces of light and film music. Undoubtedly, the most important events of the festival will be premières of pieces composed especially for the Tour de Carillon purposes by Magdalena Cynk-Mikołajewska, an outstanding composer from Toruń.
