We invite you to participate in the second edition of the Tour de Carillon Festival. The first edition took place in 2007 in Kujawsko-Pomorskie Region and attracted 25 000 participants in 26 very different concerts. The festival has shown that such an event can be an excellent alternative to mass events having a popular character and that many towns simply suffer from the lack of offers of that kind. The conclusion is more than evident – every village, town and city has a wonderful ‘under the stars concert hall’ and making it full is the question of a suitable offer.
The 2008 edition of the Tour de Carillon Festival takes place from 18 to 30 July and travels from the South to North of Poland giving shows in cities and towns situated on the Vistula River, as we say – the Europe’s last natural and great River. The places of concerts are: Wisła, Krakow, Puławy, Warsaw, Płock, Włocławek, Toruń, Bydgoszcz, Malbork, Tczew, Gdansk and Gdynia. The detailed information on the dates and hours of concerts are placed in the link KONCERTY.
During the festival the audience are going to experience exceptional capacities of carillon, the heaviest instrument in the world, operated as a solo instrument or with the accompaniment of choir and other instruments. The programme offers both old classical pieces and modern ones, folk music (including an interesting arrangement of ‘Płynie Wisła, płynie’) and film themes. Also this year’s edition is going to include the astronomical element – a special instrumentation of Gustav Holst’s ‘Planets’ for carillon with brass instruments, which is going to be performed as the announcement of the of the International Year of Astronomy 2009.
The travelling carillon will be accompanied by the instrumentalists from Toruń and Gdańsk and by the Ghent University Choir and a folk band from the Polish Mountains. The soloist is Monika Kaźmierczak, the carillonist of Gdańsk.
We wish you unforgettable impressions while listening to unusual music of bells wherever we may meet on the tour – from the mountains to the sea.
Main sponsors of the Tour de Carillon Festival 2008 are: The Kujawsko-Pomorskie Marshal’s Office and the City Office of Toruń.
